Genesis - BBC master dat (1972, UK, symphonic rock)
Friday, January 12, 2007, 06:37 PM - Music, - UK, English
In my post of Supersister live in Meerlo I mentioned that Genesis was playing at that festival too. A Genesis fan club picked this up, they have a list of all the Genesis performances, but the concert at the Midsummer Pop Festival 1972 in Meerlo was not on that list, even not on the gig list of Phil Collins. After some investigation they managed to find a copy of a collage with a newspaper print of a photo of the appearance of Genesis on stage in Meerlo, July 8th 1972, made by Joeps van Hees!

So I was not hallucinating (and neither did my ticket).

Their request is:
Does anybody have more photos or recordings of the performance of Genesis in Meerlo?
If so, or you know a nice story about it, please mail pcn<at>live<dot>nl or leave a comment here.
They will be grateful and probably reward you with a rare recording of Genesis, just as they gave me.
And they didn't mind if I shared this recording, so here it is.

In a previous post I requested some rips of Vinyl magazine flexi discs.
Toon from Belgium was kind enough to send me those.
I hereby share them.
Thanks to Toon!

Another Absurd Record (1979, UK, new wave/weird)
Wednesday, January 10, 2007, 08:14 PM - Music, - UK, English
In October I posted Gerry & the Holograms on Another Absurd Record.
Without me knowing it, the guy(s) of Mein Walkman Ist Kaputt posted in November six other releases of that label.
I just found out.

Barry Andrews - Rossmore Road (1981, UK, pop)
Thursday, January 4, 2007, 06:48 PM - Music, - UK, English
Barry Andrews was founding member of XTC (1977-1978).
In 1981 he formed Shriekback with David Allen (Gang of Four) and Carl Marsh.
In between he played with Robert Fripp's League of Gentlemen and had his own band Restaurant for Dogs. From this period dates this solo 7".

1 Rossmore Road
2 Restaurant for Dogs: Pages of My Love

Robert Fripp appears in the line up on the back cover, but I can't hear him playing.
I saw the League of Gentlemen in Doornroosje, Nijmegen. A lot of new wave bands played there around 1980, and they all started hours too late. Only Fripp began half an hour early, so I missed the first set. Luckily the second set was exactly the same: they repeated the whole show.

Mr John Dowie - Another Close Shave (1977, UK, weird)
Monday, December 25, 2006, 06:35 PM - Music, - UK, Fun, English
I saw John Dowie once on a festival. With another guy, they introduced each other as Mr. John Dowie. They did a song called 'Only Men Shave', as opposed to 'Only Women Bleed' which was a hit for Julie Covington at that time.

He hated the Dutch, but I loved him.
Later on he worked a lot together with Neil Innes (Bonzo Dog, Monty Python, Ruttles).

Adrian Munsey - The Lost Sheep (1979, UK, weird)
Sunday, December 24, 2006, 06:24 PM - Music, - UK, Fun, English
Weird record. It is not clear to me if was meant that way when it was recorded. Adrian still makes melancholy music with his orchestra as you can hear and see on his website.

Somebody posted the video on YouTube. Mr Munsey impersonates his sheep here.
(the original video is removed, so I linked to another version)

Not shared anymore. Complaints received.

Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart - Live in Holland (1982-1983, UK)
Wednesday, December 13, 2006, 06:03 PM - Music, - UK, English
In the early eighties a lot of new wave bands were recorded live and transmitted by Dutch radio.
I recorded some of them on cassette tape. Including two concerts of Jah Wobble. It is not his best period, the music is a kind of improvisation jazz funk.
The first concert was in Vera, Groningen, the Netherlands on November 21st 1982, the second on Pandora's Music Box festival in de Doelen, Rotterdam, September 3rd 1983.
I removed the worst drop-outs and the clicks generated by the fridge.
As a bonus track (do I sound like a cd label or what?) I added How Much Are They from the live double cd viva!eight, recorded at the Town & Country Club, London on September 6th 1992.

01 Introduction (1982) [0:12]
02 Hollywood 1 (1982) [7:00]
03 Jam 2 (1982) [7:41]
04 Jam 3 (1982) [8:24]
05 Jam 4 (1982) [6:17]
06 Fading (1982) [4:03]
07 Hollywood 2 (1982) [9:08]
08 Invaders (1983) [5:15]
09 Hollywood 2 (1983) [5:49]
10 Snake Charmer (1983) [4:40]
11 Brasil (1983) 4:51]

Invaders of the Heart around 1982. I got this photo from Patrick of the Yahoo Jah Wobble group.

JW (on Yahoo Jah Wobble group):
Patrick thanks for the photo (who is that thin geezer with hair?) and 'W' the download address.... that early incarnation of 'The Invaders' was a fine band; Annie, Ollie, Lee, Nev and Animal. Nev is back on the firm again at the moment. Still a very solid player. I saw Ollie in LA last year...it was nice to see him. That band was ahead of its time as they say...such good players and yet they were so young...
